here's an impressive review of Kimber's KS-2436 USB cable...

Thursday, 18th June 2015

The respected American Hi-Fi magazine The Absolute Sound features a review of the Kimber KS-2436 USB cable in its July/August 2015 edition
The first thing noted is the attention to detail that is paid to the materials and construction of the cable: "stranded and solid-core conductors are woven together in a field-isolating braided geometry which keeps the power and signal paths separate throughout the entire assembly [and] each conductor is soldered to the gold-plated pins using a nitrogen-charged system to eliminate the possibility of impurities at the interface".

This concern with optimising the quality of every part of the cable's construction is not missed in the production of the materials either. So, for example, "the silver is drawn at the ideal temperature and tension, and there are no chemical baths using lubricants like graphite which embed themselves in the silver".

All this attention to detail in the cable's construction is there for a reason of course; to release the highest possible sound quality from your hi-end audio components. It achieves this with aplomb. "The Kimber", states the reviewer, "established the widest, most detailed soundstage I've yet heard from a USB cable". That's pretty emphatic then. But it's not just the soundstage that impresses. Whilst listening to "The Age of Swing" from the Dick Hyman Big Band, he noted that "not only did the KS demonstrate excellent transient attack and micro-dynamic expression, but it also allowed [him] to hear further back into the mix".

One reason that Kimber are so careful when it comes to their choice and processing of silver is that the use of lesser quality material can introduce hardness to the treble, a factor that has put many an unsuspecting consumer off the use of silver altogether. No such worries with the KS-2436. When listening to a piano piece he observed that "during the high-octane rush of keyboard trills near the end of this composition, the KS was as open and free from treble tension as I've heard from this piece".

In conclusion, he suggests that the KS-2436 is so "ultra-detailed and transparent" that it's natural home will be connecting "first-class" DACs which will be capable of revealing the "full breadth of its performance".
