  • 16, oxygen free electrolytic (OFE) copper conductors per channel, with industry leading conductivity (102% IACS).

  • Featuring KIMBER KABLE® VariStrand™ technology.

  • Fluorocarbon (Teflon®) insulation.

Multi-Award-Winning speaker cable and a customer favourite.

A very popular choice for mid to high-end systems, 8TC has been a mainstay of the KIMBER KABLE® range for decades yet is still winning awards today - proving that good design lasts!.

8TC is made with Kimber's TCSS VariStrand™ wire - click here to read more.

Doubling the number of conductors of 4TC, 8TC is a natural upgrade for your loudspeakers and represents excellent value. With 16 rather than 8 conductors per channel, the design of 8TC has two distinct advantages over its sibling:

  • the doubling of conductors creates a heavier-gauge cable for more effective signal transfer (aggregate combination per leg of 9AWG vs 13AWG in 4TC).

  • twice as many conductors also creates a more complex cable geometry, enhancing the cable’s natural RFI-rejecting properties.

  • VariStrand™ Copper conductors

Put simply, different gauges of wire favour different frequencies; the thicker ones, bass, the medium ones, mids and the thinnest, treble. Hence, each 4TC conductor is made up of varying gauges of wire to give an even, accurate and efficient distribution of frequencies, presenting a natural, unforced and engaging musical performance.

102% IACS Copper – A Measure of Conductivity

Until the early 1900s there was no way to tell how conductive a piece of copper was. To solve this problem, the IACS (International Annealed Copper Standard) was formed to establish a standard measurement for the conductivity - this became the benchmark of 100% IACS.

While the purity percentage of cable is important, it's the IACS conductivity measurement that matters most. Achieving levels greater than 100% is expensive, which is why you’ll most commonly see a figure of at least 99% closely followed by the acronym OFC - Oxygen Free Copper or OFHC - Oxygen Free High Conductivity (oxygen being the most well-known impurity).

In fact, no copper is truly oxygen free… even the purest contains traces. OFC is simply a broad term that’s bandied about and doesn’t really mean anything: once again it's the IACS figure that tells us just how good the copper is as a conductor.

Copper refining techniques have improved dramatically since the adoption of the standard and more impurities can now be removed: Kimber use copper wire at 102% IACS. So, you can rest assured that when you buy 4TC, you will receive a cable using exceptionally pure copper with exceptionally high conductivity - 102% IACS to be exact!

    Teflon® insulation

The type of cable insulation - or dielectric - has significant effect on the performance of a cable. Most of Kimber’s interconnects and speaker cables use a form of Teflon® (fluorocarbon or PTFE – the same thing); this is expensive but has the advantage of being able to be applied at high pressure, and thus a lower temperature, minimising any heat damage to the copper and maintaining its purity.

All dielectrics have the effect of absorbing some of the voltage (signal) conducted by a cable. The voltage is then fed back into the signal slightly later, slowing it down. This is expressed as a figure known as a dielectric constant.

The perfect figure is 1, in which the dielectric does nothing to slow the signal down. While this is desirable in an audio cable, it can only be achieved by insulating the conductors with a vacuum – a touch impractical!

As well as being able to be applied at lower temperatures, Fluorocarbon (Teflon®) also has the distinct advantage of a very low dielectric constant, making it doubly impressive for maintaining signal fidelity.

“This is a very natural and clean sounding cable and one which brings a sense of warmth that is all too often missing. Fortunately this doesn't mean it lacks definition… Bass is weighty and full and again well timed and the midrange is where the spriteliness comes from. Great performance for the money”.

    "Stepping Up"
It is difficult to evaluate this upgrade from my 4TC cables because l have also upgraded my amplifier and system supports recently. However, with a couple of weeks of "running in", it appears to me that these cables are just adding to the biggest smile l have had on my face in years. Treble has sweetened up and mid-range seems to be in a different dimension. Old favourites such as the original Beatles Album, "With The Beatles" has so much more going on in the mix than l thought. Other albums from a similar age are also revealing extras in the mix that l had not noticed. Turning to CD and the results are similar. There are echoes, harmonics and atmosphere everywhere. Bass is more detailed with clear definition between the notes. What l am hearing is not a clinical sound but, rather, a full and emotional performance. It is warm where necessary and attacking at the right moments. Things will improve further after some more hours of listening. I may not be available for a while.
