Silencing mains noise
The Silencer is the first in our range of power conditioners and is a compact device that can be used in two ways.

1. Addressing mains noise at source.
Its primary use is to 'silence' mains noise at source – common culprits are computers and computer peripherals (printers, scanners, monitors etc.); fridges; freezers; battery chargers for cordless phones and so on.
Silencer is designed to simply plug in close to these devices: plug one into the double wall socket supplying your fridge, for example, and reduce the amount of noise going onto your mains at source.
Many customers use more than one around their homes, using the Noise Sniffer to locate and identify sources of noise.
For this purpose, we offer this Triple Pack of Silencers, saving you over 10% on the cost of three individual units.
2. Addressing mains noise near your system.
The Silencer can also be used as an effective and inexpensive power conditioner – simply plug it in as close to your Hi-Fi or Home Cinema as possible to create a 'quiet zone' around it. Plugging it into a spare socket in your mains extension is ideal.
Good to know:
Reducing voltage spikes
In addition to being an effective mains conditioner, the Silencer incorporates our SuperClamp™ spike and surge protection to help reduce the effect of voltage spikes. SuperClamps 'grab' the spike and reduce its intensity.
In our opinion, high voltage spikes can raise the background noise level in amplification circuits which is why it makes good sense to try and reduce them.
To maintain their effectiveness, we recommend replacing SuperClamp™ components every five years. Any product with a SuperClamp™ can be returned to us for factory replacement of the parts at lower cost than buying a new product. Find out more about SuperClamp™ renewal.
The technology
The Silencer has been designed to efficiently remove degrading mains noise. It works passively, meaning that it has none of the drawbacks of some other mains filters – drawbacks such as loss of musicality and reduced dynamic range.
It is a wide-band filter, effective at filtering over a broad frequency range. For the techies amongst you, it is a 'passive, differential and common mode, inductorless, non-resonant, harmonic filter'.
Because The Silencer is a passive filter, nothing needs to be connected to it for it to work: it simply needs to be plugged into an earthed socket, with the socket switched on.

It's pleasing to see an established product like this receiving an up to date review, especially when it gets such an unequivocal recommendation: "These devices really do work as described".
In Neville's case he found that The Silencer was even able to cure the annoying problem of clicking through his speakers. Having traced the cause of the problem back to his refrigerator he found that plugging The Silencer into a spare socket near to his system completely eradicated the issue.
In terms of the effects of The Silencer on sound quality he notes the drop in background noise and improvements in levels of detail extracted from recordings - just what we found and the effects are a much more involving musical experience.
All in all summed up as a "great product that won't break the bank".

"Money Very Well Spent"
I am probably an ideal candidate for this product, I live in inner London and have dozens of appliances and devices drawing on the mains. Not only did the silencers remove some residual hum but they also improved resolution. Outstanding value.

"Triple Pack Of Silencers"
Wow. It's the best £150 I've spent to improve the sound of my system. I don't think I've ever had an equipment upgrade where it was so immediately obvious that the sound has improved. Blacker silences: wider dynamic range: subtle details more easily heard. Old recordings are more easy to listen to. I have one next to my fridge/freezer units. One in my my distribution block. One in the nearest socket to where communal aerial feeds come into my flat
