What are Jumper cables?

From new, bi-wireable loudspeakers are pre fitted with basic (usually nasty sounding) gold plated metal links that join the LF (Low Frequency) and HF (High Frequency) drivers together, 4TC Jumpers replace these – essentially like a mini set of speaker cables. Replacing just these and you can expect to hear a far smoother, sweeter more engaging sound.

Jumper cables will also allow you to replace your existing bi-wire cable with a higher quality single set. Russ isn’t a big fan of biwiring per se; he feels that some amplifiers find the load of two sets of speaker cables difficult to handle, with the result that although some areas, such as bass, sounds better, others – such as the soundstage and the musicality – are worse. Another problem with biwiring is that you need to use two runs of cable – or a properly designed biwirable cable. This can double the cost of the connection; we feel it’s much better to spend that money on a better quality single run of cable, rather than two runs of a cheaper cable. Jumper cables allow you to do this.

We’ve chosen the best cable from Kimber’s range - 4TC and 8TC to make Jumper cables with. The slightly lower cost of making them with 4PR VariStrand™ or 8PR VariStrand™ simply isn’t worth it.

A set is sufficient for two speakers.

How to fit Jumpers

Step 1

The back of a typical biwire speaker. The bottom set of binding posts handle the bass and midrange; the top set handle the higher frequencies. Note the ‘links’ connecting the binding posts together.

Step 2

If you want to single wire your speakers and use our jumper cables, first remove the links.

Step 3

Our jumper cables are supplied in sets of four (enough for a pair of speakers). Fitting them depends on the type of connections your speakers can accept. Having inspected them, we find that these speakers can accept bare wire, bananas or spades.

Step 4

Since our main speaker cable is fitted with bananas, we’ve opted for jumper cables that are fitted with spades and bananas. First, we connect the spades to the bottom set of binding posts – this is where the main speaker cable will fit when we wire the system later. Using spades means that the socket for the bananas are free.

Step 5

The other end of the jumper cables connect to the top set of binding posts. Make sure the red post connects to the red post and the black post to the black post. Simply plug the banana into the top set.

Step 6

All you need to do now is to connect your main speaker cable to the bottom set (the low frequency) binding posts. Simply sit back and enjoy your music!

"4Tc Jumpers - Recent Purchase."
I started buying into the Russ Andrews 'tweaking' approach to improving Hi Fi - sometime last year..by trying out the Yello Power cord ( on offer back then for £30).. It definitely worked. An X - block 6 and a mains Zapperator, plus the beginnings of a Ringmat turntable system - proved to me that the stuff is kosher and not voodoo! I now wish I'd bought the more expensive 8TC Jumpers - 'cos the 4TC variety I purchased are just super. As it says on the tin - the bass is tighter and the overall sound is sweeter..all for £94 with bananas and spades. My Audiolab/ Project system has started to sparkle (at last) and - though Russ is not cheap - I still think his solutions beat laying out loads of dough for more fabulously expensive amplifiers. etc. The proof is in the listening - so I was up late last night - listening to everything from a house/ dance mix to jazz to classical.. It all sounds good now. ??
