INFORMATION
Updated for 2018

Following on from customer feedback to improve performance, we have updated the design of our upgrade cable for the AKG 702 Headphones.

To significantly reduce noise, we have removed the black Techflex covering and used a better gauge of Kimber cable with a slightly softer insulation to aid flexibility and more importantly help reduce the potential microphonic nature of the original cable. The change is effective on both the ¼” and 3.5mm jack versions.

Following the success of our cable upgrades for the Sennheiser HD 600/650 headphones and AKG 701 headphones, we developed a cable for the AKG 702 headphones.

  • Ultra pure, Kimber GQ copper conductors
  • Fitted with a Neutrik Mini XLR at headphone end
  • Choice of Neutrik 3.5mm minijack or 1/4" plug at amplifier end.

Our cable offers the opportunity to benefit from Kimber's woven cable to get the very best performance from your AKG 702 headphones.

Also compatible with the AKG Q701

    headphones not included

The cable is fitted with a high quality Neutrik Mini XLR to fit the AKG heapdhones and your choice of 3.5mm or 1/4" jack at the heapdhone amplifier end.

We use a variation of the superb GQ, woven cable as the conductor. Consisting of four pure copper conductors and in our opinion, produces a smooth and natural sound.
  • Compatibility
The following AKG headphones are compatible with the K702 Headphone cable:

    K240
    Q701

    "More Sparkle"
Beyerdynamic dt 1770 Pro 250 Ohm driven by 2 watt transistor. Really good with stock cable. But a bit dull and flat. With R.A. /Kimber cable the sound is open, crisp, wider with more texture to the bass. Not night and day, but enhancing what was already there. Gone from good studio cans to splendid hi-fi headphones. The cable is a bit stiff, I can hear it when moving with the headphones on. Only do that to turn the record. No problem when I sit and listen, then it's dead silent.

    "Akg 712 Cable"
A noticeable and immediate sonic improvement over the standard stock cable. It has elevated all aspects of sound quality to make my AKG712s a substantially better headphone a close second to my Sennheiser hd 800's. I did leave to burn in for around 72 hours before I began to critically listen to them and noted a distinct opening up of the sound stage and improvements in bass and midrange.
There is a bit of microphonic noise due to the nature of the cable but I found this only noticeable when the cable looped around and rubbed against itself. The headphones are not meant for sport activities so for most people when sitting still it should not present a problem.

    "Flexibllity Could Be Better"
Sounds good, but cable is too stiff, thereby inducing contact noise when moving head.
Customer Service Reply Thank you for your review and thank you for bringing to our attention the mechanical noise you are experiencing. We'll do some investigating.

"Best Skipping Rope I'Ve Ever Owned"
Wife - 'It looks like a skipping rope!'

    Me - :-)

This is possibly one of the best cable upgrades I've ever invested in. Has breathed new life into my very old Austrian made K702s. Hooked up to a Pro-Ject pre box RS digital, I now have HiFi in the living room without overly inconveniencing people. Opted for 5m to have the widest range as the DAC is in the corner of the room. No issues with signal degradation - I worried that the increased resistance would have an impact, but I needn't have.

Greater clarity all round and quite revealing - orchestral instruments that were previously merged now have greater separation. Music has greater impact all round. Brilliant.

    "Superb Upgrade"
I use AKG K240 Mk 2 studio headphones in a Leema/Naim headphone system that has been upgraded by RA. The AKG cable demolishes the standard AKG cables producing a thoroughly musical 3D sound. The partnership with the 240s is magical and a real hi end bargain

    "Big Improvement"
I purchased this cable last week, and received it within 5 days (and I live in Amsterdam...). Straight out of the box the cable is a big improvement over the standard AKG cable. Much more detail, more space, less compression in the sound. I read about the complaints concerning the cable noise. I don't have them. The cable is a high quality built cable, not as flexible as the original cable, but it doesn't produce any noise.

    "Good Upgrade Over Stock Cable"
Bought this cable for my AKG K240 mk2 headphones as all my hifi cables are kimber/RA, big improvement in the SQ department but like the others have said, the cable is microphonic due to the outer sleeving, maybe a cloth type sheathing would be better

    "A Big Improvement"
After a considerable amount of burn in ( I bought the cable a few months ago) I can say that this cable is quite a step up from the stock cable of my AKG K712's. A fuller more detailed sound. The cable is well made and seems very durable. My only criticism is the same as Jon Carter's, the mechanical noise is quite overwhelming. Luckily most of the time I am sat pretty still with the cable supported near me to minimise the noise. The noise is the main reason I can't give it 5 stars.
    Customer Service Reply Hi Chris
Thank you for your review. With the help of Jon Carter's feedback and now yours, we're actually working on a revised version that should address the issues raised. We'll be in touch once it's ready.

"Great Sound And Build, But Some Mechanical Noise."
This is a beautifully built cable with a lovely natural sound throughout.
However it has a lot of mechanical noise [feedback] when connected to Headphones.
You only have to touch the cable or allow it to rub along your floor or carpet and the sound will be picked up through the phones!
The cable that came with my AKG q701s have virtually no feedback so this is a little disappointing. Maybe the cable needs a different sleeve fitted to it to help solve this problem?
