Evolution-100 PowerKord Review

Tuesday, 9th June 2020

Reviewer Neville Roberts was highly impressed when he had a listen to our new Evolution-100 PowerKord in the April 2020 edition of Hi-Fi Choice magazine.

After going through some of the features of the new cable - specifically, the new helically-wound earth which induces 20x less noise and the use of Kimber’s new higher purity copper - he turns his attention to the effect the cable has on his music.

“Connecting the Evolution-100 PowerKord to the power supply of my valve preamp”, he writes, “I instantly experience a greater sense of depth and increased spaciousness”.  That’s impressive for a ‘cold’ cable fresh out of the packaging.

“In short, the Evolution-100 reveals its value as an excellent-quality mains cable that comes highly recommended as an upgrade”.

His music of choice for this initial test is Angola by Quentin Collins and his All Star Jazz Quintet and he finds that one of the key aspects to the performance is the way that “the instruments have a clearly defined location in the room”.

Moving on to his second test piece, George Malcolm’s solo harpsichord rendition of a sonata in G major by Domenico Scarlatti, the most obvious aspect of the cable’s performance is the extent to which it lowers the noise floor. He finds that the cable “really draws me intoMalcolm’s intimate recital with the silences between the musical phrases eerily quiet”.

In addition, there is also a naturalness to the presentation, leading him to report that “the musical leading edges and natural decay of each harpsichord note adds to the realism of the reproduction”.

In conclusion, Neville writes:
“In short, the Evolution-100 reveals its value as an excellent-quality mains cable that comes highly recommended as an upgrade”.
